Aftercare

All tattoo artists have a different set of healing instructions. The guidelines on this page are in no way meant to be universal, they are just our way of doing things. If you have any questions about the tattoo we gave you… please call us at the shop. Do not take advice from family, friends, or other uninformed persons.

Tattoos
  • After you arrive home you may remove any wrappings that your artist may have applied.
  • Wash the tattoo LIGHTLY with a soft handsoap and water. Rinse the tattoo and pat dry. Apply a VERY, VERY light coat of A&D ointment or Aquaphore over the surface of the tattoo.
  • Repeat the process set forth above several times a day as needed for 48 hours.
  • After about 48 hours you should stop washing the tattoo, but you will continue to apply the ointment as needed.
  • About a week from the day you got you tattoo the skin over the tattoo will begin to break and peel. DO NOT encourage the peeling process in any way. Leave the tattoo alone as much as humanly possible.
  • As the peel finishes up you can switch from ointment to a light unscented lotion to keep the tattoo from drying out and cracking.

That’s it. Once the skin stops drying out and itching you are healed. Congratulations on your new tattoo.

Here are a few Pro Tips

  • DO NOT apply too much ointment to the tattoo. If you think that you might be using too much… you are, use less.
  • DO NOT go into a pool, sauna or anything else that may contain chlorine. It could get down into your pores and damage the tattoo.
  • After a few days your tattoo may itch. DO NOT scratch it, rub it, or touch it in any way! LEAVE IT ALONE!
  • That “old/ ugly” tattoo look is sun damage. Keep your tattoo out of the sun, forever! The sun kills tattoos no matter how long you have had them. USE SUNSCREEN!
